I know it's not strictly a 'BFPO' topic, but for those that were unaware, ITV's new eight part series Commando: Britain's Front Line started last night, and very good it was too!
The programme follows a group of 50 recruits through their 32 week training to become Royal Marine Commandos. The documentary maker, Chris Terrill, actually follows the recruits all the way through their training and onwards to their posting in Afghanistan later in the series. The programme is shown on Thursday nights on ITV1 at 9pm, and a book to accompany the series is due to be released later this month.
I must say, after a day of endless news broadcasts on the (not) terribly sad case of Jose Morinho, (sacked from his £5M a year job, with a £10M plus payoff); it was nice to see a bunch of highly motivated guys putting themselves through hell for not much over £10k per year. That's pride and passion. Maybe our country and its news organisations need to look at their priorities!
