A new British Forces shopping website has launched; ShopForces.com.

The site is a handy directory of UK online businesses and shops - most importantly, each time you follow a link from the ShopForces website and make a purchase, a donation is made to two charities, SSAFA Forces Help and The Royal British Legion.

So, next time you are going to make a purchase online, be it from Amazon, Boots or anyone else, go to ShopForces, click on the relevant shop link on their site and your work is done; if you proceed to make a purchase from the relevant store a commission payment is made to ShopForces and money is then donated to charity.

Easter Boxes for BFPO addresses

Boxhappy have added their range of gift boxes for Easter 2010 to their website here.

MoD urges end to surprise gifts - it clogs up the supply chain!

The BBC website reports here that

"The Ministry of Defence is asking the public to donate to military charities instead of sending surprise Christmas parcels to troops they do not know."

We do recall that in the run up to Christmas last year, letters and parcels were taking quite a long time to arrive.  When we queried this the staff at BFPO reported that they were having to deal with a large volume of unsolicited mail to unnamed individuals.

Thus, the request from the MOD is not a big surprise; and if it ensures that post sent from friends and families gets to their recipients in a more timely manner, it is probably for the best.

The Stylophone - a sort of synthesizer for the tone deaf

This is the first of what we hope will be many gift suggestions for Christmas 2009.

This product was a big hit for Christmas 2008 and the re-released Styophone now has a headphones output, allowing users to experiment and create music without driving everyone around them potty.

This little musical device has been used by the likes of David Bowie in "Space Oddity" and also made an appearance on Doctor Who.
