The BFPO website now contains full details of the new FREEPOST service.
Many congratulations to the various people who fought so hard to achieve this. The key paragraphs are:
An additional Royal Mail free packet service has been authorised for Op Telic & Op Herrick BFPOs. The additional free service will operate from 3rd Sep 07 to 9th Nov 07. Family & friends in UK & BFPOs can send packets up to 2Kg in weight free of charge to Op Telic and Op Herrick BFPO No's only.
A free packet service has also been authorised to operational theatres for Christmas 2007. The free service will operate from 9th Nov 07 to 7th Dec 07 to authorised operational locations.
So from 3rd September to 7th December there is a Freepost service (for items under 2kg) to the following BFPO destinations: 632, 635, 639, 641, 661, 684, 767, 715, 755, 758, 764, 772, 792, 210, 221, 276, 368, 434, 452.
This decision is long overdue. The BFPO site doesn't seem to comment on what happens after December 7th. One would imagine that the Royal Mail and BFPO would have a very difficult job withdrawing this service once it has been running for a couple of months. Firstly it is a service that will be greatly appreciated and heavily used by service personnel and their families. It is absolutely crucial for morale that the guys and girls posted overseas get as many letters and parcels as possible. Secondly, the negative PR that would be directed against the MoD and the Royal Mail should they decide to withdraw this service in December will be hard for them to bear.

wow, what an excellent idea this site is!
Have already bookmarked it and will check back regularly
